The School of Art & Design is a dynamic program with a growing reputation whose mission is to contribute to the greater good of art, education, and culture. The graduate program is nationally ranked by U.S. News & World Report. It is the only institution in the state of West Virginia that offers professionally-accredited (NASAD) degrees. Our unique Global Positioning Studies (GPS) courses encourage site-specific travel to engage the world as fertile ground for art making and critical research.
Apply to WVU. College of Creative Arts applicants must be enrolled at West Virginia University before consideration.
You are welcome to apply to the School of Art & Design online at any time, but you must be accepted to the university before a place in the program can be offered. A PDF application is available upon request from James.Froemel@mail.wvu.edu.
All applicants to the WVU School of Art & Design must submit a portfolio for review. Portfolios can be submitted at one of the scheduled portfolio review days, on an individual basis, or electronically.
This portfolio review also serves as scholarship consideration. Please note that scholarship consideration is only given to those that attend an on-campus portfolio review.
We will notify the student and the Office of Admissions of the results of the portfolio
review. Once you have been admitted, you will also receive information on the
scheduling of classes.
Students who do not meet the standards for admittance into the School of Art & Design may select a variety of other majors at the University, including the College of Creative Arts’ Multidisciplinary Studies program.
