The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Intermedia and Photography fosters creative exploration and critical inquiry in the production of contemporary art through a variety of media explorations including digital and traditional photographic processes, digital video, animation, installation, interactivity, and sound design. Within the major, students track toward either Electronic Media or Photography to develop their unique and compelling forms of expression. A state-of-the-art facility for analog and digital imaging, a diverse and sequenced curriculum, and a supportive and challenging faculty all aim to aid students in their individual journeys as artists.
Visiting artists are frequently invited as guest lecturers to stimulate dialogue about current issues with the medium. These artists share their experiences to help prepare students for their professional life. Students also learn about the role of the artist beyond the university by attending exhibitions at museums and galleries, and participating in regular art exhibitions in the community. With support available from the School, students can participate in the program’s unique summer field courses allowing travel to the Atacama desert in Chile or the wilderness of Jackson Hole, Wyoming to pursue their creative passion.
