Intermedia is an area that integrates and investigates technologically based media as a fine art form. The program is “connected,” not only through wires, but through a philosophy of art that seeks to bridge traditional stylistic and media boundaries, which separate artists and limit artistic possibility. Comprised by the areas of Photography and Electronic Media, emphasis is placed on an open and intuitive approach to art making, in conjunction with formal and conceptual development.

Through a variety of media explorations, including digital and traditional photographic processes, digital video, animation, installation, interactivity and sound design. Students are encouraged to develop unique and compelling forms of expression. Emphasis is placed on experimental, new, and alternative uses of technology which may be materially tangible or intangible, static or time-based, long-lived or temporary, and promote an active theoretical framework within artistic inquiry. Crossovers with other studio art disciplines and the incorporation of other academic interests is strongly supported.
