Kofi Opoku
Associate Professor | Graphic Design
Kofi Opoku received his MFA from West Virginia University and his BA from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi, Ghana. His specialties include web design and computer animation. His research focuses on ways in which technology may be used in a design context to create conversations around issues of public concern.
He began
his design career as a graphic designer and animator, working in startup
advertising agencies, production, and publishing houses. His interest in
creative strategy and brand development subsequently led him to serve as an Art
Director at Origin8 Saatchi, the Ghana affiliate of the global advertising firm
Saatchi and Saatchi. Most recently, he completed a website project that
catalogs the stories of homeless people in Morgantown, WV. His essay, “When Awareness is Not Enough: Understanding
Homelessness Through the Lens of Design,” was published in Stephen
Heller's Citizen Designer II: New Perspectives in Design Responsibility
(Second Edition). His
work has also been recognized by Graphic Design USA, Horizon Interactive
Awards, and by the curated advertising website, adsoftheworld.com.
